Craig LaRotonda is an artist from Buffalo, New York. He is a professional painter, illustrator, and sculptor. His paintings and sculpture have been in numerous galleries, and have even been in movies such as Traffic in 2000, and The Other Guys in 2010. LaRotonda's illustrations tend to take on more of a political narrative. His work has been featured in several national news magazines such as Time Magazine, The New York Times, and The Washington Post to name a few.
I enjoy the kitschy-ness of Craig's work. All of the images posted on Hire an Illustrator have the feel of being collage pieces, and many are political in nature. He tends to use old photographs in his work, which I appreciate. I selected this particular piece because it is less political in nature. Much of his work seems to me to take a new approach on satirical journalism.
