Blog #3 - Photos and Textures
Faces
This piece was created using two photos I have taken. The first image is of a sculpture I saw at The SALT Block in Hickory, NC in 2018. The sculpture was carved from stone and entitled Catawba Heads, Artist is Unknown. The second image is a plank from my deck. I began by cropping the sculpture image, then used the spot healing brush to soften the remaining lines of the pedestal it sat on. I used the Divide Blur tool at 100% opacity on the image of the wood plank.
Feathers & Leaf
The image of is one I took for a Drawing I class, while the texture was one I downloaded from Bashcropo. I began by using free transform to alter the layout of the image and crop down the photograph, and used the spot healing brush in a couple of the corners to cover areas that were not covered by the white background. Then I enlarged the "Grungy paper texture" to fit the photograph. Lastly, I chose the Overly Blur tool at 100% opacity to achieve this look.
Fuel
This image was achieved by using pictures I had taken. The background image is of a broken teak chair ablaze in a fire pit, and the overlay image is of a tree with bits of moss covering it. I began by using free transform to fit the tree bark to the first layer. I actually used two layers of the bark, one using Color Dodge Blur tool at 100% opacity, and the next layer used the Multiply Blur tool at 59% opacity. Finally, I cropped the image for more visual interest.

Blog Assignment 2 - Dream A Little Dream
What is the nature of dreams?
Dreams are a way for our brains to make sense of the things we experience, see, or hear throughout the day. They blend our conscious and unconscious minds. People have tried to bring meaning to dreams since the beginning of time. They have been believed to be divine images from the gods, curses from Satan, and have been used in psychology to gain more understanding about a person.
Do you believe in coincidence?
I believe that fate, coincidence, and free will all have a role to play in our lives. Coincidences happen all of the time. For instance, the boy that grew up across the street from me coincidentally shared the same exact birthday as me, only I was an hour older than he was.
How is memory like a dream?
Our brains never remember things as they actually happened. Memories change and fade, details are forgotten or mis-remembered. In the end, memories become small snapshots in time, they take on a dreamlike state. One can think back and picture the images as they remember them creating an impression of a dream.
